GENERAL TOURNAMENT RULES
Fishing Derby is scheduled for 1 day only – Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 6:00AM - 6:00PM. International Game Fish Association (IGFA) rules DO NOT apply to the 2025 SUAF MAHI &WAHOO SHOOTOUT. It is the responsibility of each angler to be familiar with the IGFA rules. The official tournament VHF channel is 68. (Use this channel for all updates, emergencies, etc or call 777-2459)
All registered anglers must comply with and abide by all applicable Guam laws. Any infractions of the applicable rules will disqualify the angler(s) and boat/team from the entire tournament, and any disqualified anglers will not be entitled to any refund. Shut up & Fish Guam reserves the right to change, add/or amend any of the following rules at any time and notify participants of any such changes no later than Tournament Day, March 16, 2025.

CHECK-IN/OUT
A PHYSICAL Check-out is required by a representative of the vessel. If you are late, you must still check out before going fishing. Coolers are subject to inspection. All vessels must leave and return from their perspective marinas, Hagatna boat basin or Agat Marina and be in the Channel Markers to qualify and must come to the weigh station by boat and be courteous of the others. YOU will NOT qualify if you walk your fish up unless it's from the ramp area where the Weigh station. Please understand and be patient as we will do our best to speed up the process.. Vessels may not leave the channel before 6AM and must return before 6PM. If you are passed this time you become ineligible to turn in your fish.
If your vessel chooses to return to a marina with no fish to turn in - PLEASE make sure to call/text and check in as a courtesy to let us know you have safely returned.
ANGLERS, VESSELS
Only registered anglers, teams, & boats may fish the SUFGT. Team entry fee includes two anglers. Additional anglers may join the tournament, $50/per person up to 6 persons max per vessel. This is a fun team event, anglers and crew can hook and pass the rod to any angler.
Boats are not allowed to ask for assistance from other boaters to help bring in their catch. YOU must secure your own fish with your own crew and gear on board your vessel.
All participants are expected to maintain a reasonable and sportsmanlike demeanor at all times throughout the tournament. Unsportsmanlike or threatening conduct towards tournament organizers or other participants, or any other behavior which the tournament organizers deem inappropriate, in their sole discretion, will result in immediate disqualification of the entire team with no refund of entry fees.
Participants are encouraged to assist boats in distress if they are able to. Boats responding to a distress call will be exempted from the 6:00 p.m. deadline IF they have a qualifying catch onboard PRIOR to responding to the distress call BUT must obtain prior approval from the Tournament Rules Official.
In case of a “MAY DAY” or “DISTRESS CALL”, the closest boat to the vessel in distress will take charge of communication and rescue attempts. Immediately notify GFD Rescue on Channel 68 and the US Coast Guard on Channel 16, utilizing your VHF radio. On your cellular phone, dial 911.
RELEASE OF LIABILITY
To be eligible, the boat captain must sign the registration/waiver form, provided by SUAF, to represent and be responsible for all members on the team boat in case of emergencies.
BAIT, TACKLE, LINES & CHUMMING - Prohibited Gears
Trolling, Jigging, Hand lining, baiting and casting from vessels allowed. Any rotten or mutilation of fish is automatic disqualification. No shooting (firearms), bang sticks or harpoons allowed.
*SPECIAL CATEGORY - 1ST MARLIN (In Honor of ✝Jeff Tereas)
1st Marlin brought in and weighed at either station will win the category, Beer for a Year.
*SPECIAL CATEGORY - TOTAL WEIGHT (In Honor of ✝Gabe Topasna) Must have at least one of each species (Mahi & Wahoo) to qualify.
*SPECIAL CATEGORY - (In Honor of ✝Jason Biggs) Must be First and biggest wahoo over 30 Lbs.
WEIGH STATION
The weigh station will be open at the Hagatna Boat Basin & Agat Marina from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. This tournament is ONLY for the biggest fish per category. ** Please be advised, we are trying to promote a fun event - where sustainability plays key role**
CATCH INSPECTION
Stomach contents of all fish entered for a prize may be checked and removed by tournament officials. Fish mutilated by sharks, other fish, or propellers that remove or penetrate the flesh will be disqualified. Injuries or scratches caused by leaders or lines, healed scars, or regenerated deformities are exempted. Any mutilation of fish must be explained to the satisfaction of the tournament officials.
DISPOSITION OF FISH
All qualifying fish MUST be donated for the Awards Banquet. Fish must NOT be left at the dock, or they will be confiscated....and eaten or thrown. All fish must be properly handled, iced and be of good quality.
ENTRY FORMS
At least one angler from each Team/Boat must complete and sign the entire Entry form as the authorized agent of all registered anglers on the Team/Boat and represent that every angler has read, understands and agrees to all Shut up & Fish Guam Tournament rules.
There is a $250.00 Entry fee per vessel. There is no refund for tournament entry fees.
REGISTRATION OPEN THRU MARCH 16, 2025.
Online registration is encouraged. One of your team representatives must register and pay all fees for the tournament in person or online no later than MARCH 16, 2025.
Participants are responsible for their own safety, actions, and property at all times.
All participating boats must observe safe boating rules and regulations. Failure to do so may result in the disqualification of the boat from the tournament. A registered boater will not qualify for reimbursement if disqualification is due to the boater negligence in furnishing the required safety equipment and current boating registration. Vessels must comply with US Coast Guard and Local boating safety rules.
